Lindy Hop Tracks
Please be sure to check the descriptions when making your selection! The track system works best when everyone makes a thoughtful evaluation of which track description best suits their current focus as a Lindy Hop dancer. Camp track levels are often not the same as your local classes and the levels assigned to each track are included for a general guideline. Higher level tracks are not better, they are just focused differently. Each track will have some degree of range to it and you may be at the highest point of the range, yet still in the right place for you. Track classes make up less than half of the classes you have the opportunity to attend. Which track you are in should not make a significant difference to your camp experience as they will all have classes with excellent instructors. There will be much to be learned at any level with any class, regardless of who else is in the class.
- Orange Track, Beginner Intermediate
This track is for those who already have a solid base of fundamentals including Swing Out, Lindy Turn (Swing Out from open), Lindy Circle and Side-by-Side Charleston and are comfortable executing them while social dancing. The focus will be on refining basics, adding styling and footwork variations, expanding your Lindy Hop repertoire and bringing musicality into your dancing. The goal will be to take all of the different elements and start to put it together with flow and connection.
If you are a Beginner with no prior Lindy Hop experience or a little bit of experience, there is a Beginner Lindy Hop Crash Course offered on Thursday and Friday which will be needed in preparation to be in the Orange Track. (Available as an optional add-on for the Weekend and Extended Weekend and included with the Whole Shebang.)- Red Track, Intermediate
- In this track you have already taken a lot of classes and workshops and social dance frequently. The focus will be on improving all of the elements that you are already familiar with while expanding your repertoire with more advanced and trickier combinations. The goal will be to take your dancing to a new level with a concentration on smooth transitions, good lead-follow skills, learning to dance at both slow and fast tempos and expanding your musicality.
- Blue Track, Intermediate Advanced
- At this level, dancing has been a meaningful part of your life for a long time now. You have continued to take classes and social dance on a regular basis. You have a good comfort level on the social dance floor with a wide range of tempos and partners. You can learn new things at a pretty fast rate and are continuing to add layers to your dancing. The goal will be to improve your individual technical skills, partnering skills and learning how to connect with the music to drive your dancing.
- Green Track, Advanced
At this point you have taken many classes with many different instructors and you really know how to put it all together. You have been dancing long enough to have developed a huge repertoire of moves that you are comfortable with. You are fine with a wide range of tempos from very slow to very fast. Dancing for you is all about the joy of new experiences in that you are open and excited about what might happen each time you social dance. The focus is on your partner and you know how to make it fun with everyone regardless of their experience or ability. You have come so far but are aware that there is still much more to achieve and you want to be challenged. You continue to be open and interested in improving your individual and partnering dance skills and the passion for dance is very much alive!
There will be an audition class for this track on Saturday morning.- Yellow Track, Advanced Plus
This track is often referred to as the “teachers track”. Although it is not a requirement, much of the track is made up of teachers appreciating the opportunity to be in classes with peers, also including top dancers and competitors. We’ll just say it will be challenging, requiring knowledge, experience, passion and skill.
It is not possible to register for this track, however there will be an audition class on Saturday morning.- Pink Track, Team Performance (Whole Shebang & Week)
New for this year! This will be an intense track aimed at developing and improving skills required to compete or perform. In addition to concentrating on individual performance skills, there will also be a focus on team performance dynamics. It will be a fun and challenging opportunity to work with classmates, including a goal of 2 performances at camp. This track is appropriate for individual competitors/performers as well as those already on a team or interested in forming a team. Teams are very welcome to attend and this will be an excellent opportunity to take your team to a new level of performance.
Requirements for this track are to be at an intermediate/advanced to advanced level, register with a partner, and attending for either the Whole Shebang or Week registration option.
