Check the Class Information page for an explanation of the class organization.
The track levels have been revised from past years so be sure to read the descriptions to determine which is the best track that corresponds to your experience. Bear in mind that you will be in a lot of classes with a lot of instructors throughout the camp. You want to be at a comfortable and appropriate level so that it will be an enjoyable and rewarding experience for yourself and your classmates. There is no formula that everyone fits. Each Lindy Hop Track will have a range of experiences and there will be some people who will be at the high end and some people at the low end within each track. The lineup of instructors is awesome and each track will be a fantastic opportunity for learning as well as a lot of fun!
- Yellow Track (Lindy Hop Track 1)
No experience is required to be at this level, although most people usually have some. The focus will be on basic technique including frame and connection, the fundamentals of Lindy Hop such as Lindy Turn, Swing Out, Lindy Circle, Side-by-Side Charleston and other variations as well as mixing 6 and 8 count basics. This class is ideal for new dancers, those who have learned 6 count Swing and those who have previously taken a few Lindy Hop classes. The goal in this track will be to acquire good fundamental skills and to gain confidence on the social dance floor.
If you are a beginner with no prior Lindy Hop experience, we recommend that you come for Thursday if possible (available as an optional add-on for the Weekend and Extended Weekend and included with the Whole Shebang). It is not mandatory, but will be a great opportunity to get a good start for the track classes.
- Orange Track (Lindy Hop Track 2)
- This track is for those who have a solid base of fundamentals and can comfortably social dance what they have learned. The focus will be on refining basics, adding styling and footwork variations, expanding your Lindy Hop repertoire and bringing musicality into your dancing. The goal will be to take all of the different elements and start to put it all together with flow and connection.
- Red Track (Lindy Hop Track 3)
- In this track you have already taken a lot of classes and workshops and social dance frequently. The focus will be on improving all of the elements that you are already familiar with while expanding your repertoire with more advanced and trickier combinations. The goal will be to take your dancing to a new level with a concentration on smooth transitions, good lead-follow skills, learning to dance at both slow and fast tempos and expanding your musicality.
- Blue Track (Lindy Hop Track 4)
- At this level, dancing has been a meaningful part of your life for a long time now. You have continued to take classes and social dance on a regular basis. You have a good comfort level on the social dance floor with a wide range of tempos and partners. You can learn new things at a pretty fast rate and are continuing to add layers to your dancing. The goal will be to improve your individual technical skills, partnering skills and learning how to connect with the music to drive your dancing.
- Green Track (Lindy Hop Track 5)
- At this point you have taken many classes with many different instructors and you really know how to put it all together. You have been dancing long enough to have developed a huge repertoire of moves that you are comfortable with. You are fine with a wide range of tempos from very slow to very fast. Dancing for you is all about the joy of new experiences in that you are open and excited about what might happen each time you social dance. The focus is on your partner and you know how to make it fun with everyone regardless of their experience or ability. You have come so far but are aware that there is still so much more to achieve and you want to be challenged. You continue to be open and interested in improving your individual and partnering dance skills and the passion for dance is very much alive!
