Here are some pictures and comments from Beantown Lindy Hop Summer Camp 2002. Thanks for sending in your photos, and for making the camp so much fun! Also check the Beantown 2002 Results page for the results of the Northeast Lindy Hop Championships and other competitions held during Beantown 2002.

We would like to send out a big thank you to everyone who came to Beantown Mini-Camp and Northeast Lindy Hop Championships, the Saturday Dance Party and of course the full week Beantown Camp. It was just fantastic from the very start to the very finish. Even the heat wave didn't interfere with the fun thanks to so many friendly and enthusiastic Lindy Hoppers from the U.S. and beyond. Everything was fabulous, from the dances, classes, competitions, DJs, Lindy Hop Heaven and all the new friends we made and all our old friends that we were so happy to see again. We couldn't have asked for anything better (except maybe some of the absolutely perfect cool dry weather we had in Boston right after camp!). We would also like to send out a special thank you to our gang who helped us to make our best Beantown ever... Martin & Suzanne, Joe & Rachelle, Meredith, David and Denyce. You guys are the best!!

Like Catalina and Herrang, Beantown is a Swing Dance Week dedicated to the preservation of Lindy Hop. Going to Beantown is like attending Frankie Manning's birthday, something everybody should experience at least once as a Lindy Hopper. Jenny & I are proud to say that we teach at Beantown as we think the event has few rivals providing such high quality instructors, top class bands, fabulous accommodation, good food and top DJs in a friendly atmosphere that makes us want to return year after year.

I love the community feeling. Being on a small campus. The classes are small enough to get to know all the students. Best cabaret night. Best band in the world. Beantown is for sure one of my favorite camps of the year.

I just wanted to send you my thanks for a great weekend. You guys sure know how to throw a party! I wish I was staying longer, but one thing the mini-camp did for me was to show me that I would love the whole week! So, see you next year for the whole week!

Thanks for having the dance camp. This camp experience was wonderful! And depending on my schedule, I would love to attend camp next year. The concentration of classes and the evening social dance probably did more to make me a smoother, more proficient leader than anything else has. For this, I can't thank you enough.

Organizing all of this must be very demanding of your time and energy, but I hope that you would be encouraged to continue to with the camp. In the end, it really did become something like a family; I've made some new friends, and I hope to be able to see them in future local and regional social dances. A couple of the memorable highlights of my camp experience revolved around the hip-hop and hustle classes. I didn't think that these types of dance classes would be offered, but they were wonderful; they helped me to focus on other aspects of swing dancing that sometimes gets lost over everything else that was taught.

I had a marvelous time! What fun it was! I absolutely adored the entire weekend and was really sad when it ended. The hardest part was choosing from among the many tempting courses and events. Next year, I've got to stay for the 'whole shebang'!!!

The caliber of dancing was very impressive. Seeing all the wonderful dance performances even at the nightly dances was enthralling. Thanks to everyone for having Beantown 2002.

I'm just back from my very first Beantown and boy was it fun! I've never danced or sweated so much in one week. I learned alot and can already see and feel an improvement in my dancing. I'll be going every year from now on, if I can. I HIGHLY recommend it.

I wish you could all have been there sweating with us last week. What a great experience that was. The instruction was personal, serious and incredibly fun. The social dances at night were incredibly social and fun, with wonderful people from all over the country and the world. The music swung hard. I was so inspired.

My Highlights:

Dawn Hampton dancing to Ron Sunshine's Natural Man.
Everyone dancing to Bangra.
Water polo.
Having a mutual breakthrough with a friend after taking a class with Erik and Sylvia.
Frankie Manning talking about not letting a bully steal his chocolate snap cookies.
